Our Shelter Campaign

We are partnering with the Molly & Ed Shill Cares Foundation and the Sheltering Families, Building Futures campaign to open Ontario County’s first-ever homeless shelter for families.

Our Five Year Plan

2025

Our focus is dedicated to strengthening the foundation of our organization for the future. Our goals for 2025 include the launch of a $5,000,000 campaign to support the opening of the first family homeless shelter in Ontario County, implementing a new case management record keeping system, increasing resources for our eviction prevention & shelter diversion program, recruiting and onboarding staff to support the opening of our shelter, and reviewing and revising our policies, procedures, and programming.

2026

Successful opening of the first family homeless shelter in Canandaigua NY. We will have 4 main priorities which will include 1) Staff development and training with a focus around a trauma informed care culture; 2) Program development to ensure we understand the needs of the families we work with and ensure our programs align with their needs; 3) Strengthen the relationships we have with our community partners, nonprofits, and agencies to have a collaborative approach to meeting the needs of the families in our community; and 4) recruit and engage volunteers that want to be a part of this community response.

2027

Begin assessing the needs in Ontario County for future expansion with the goal of a second shelter in Geneva NY. Identify other areas in Ontario County where we can add additional emergency shelter apartments. Continued focus with building relationships with landlords to increase inventory of affordable housing. Continued focus on training and resources available to help support families in need of our Eviction Prevention & Shelter Diversion program. Implement a strategy for continual process improvement.

2028

In 2028 our goal is to have identified the location of our second shelter in Ontario County, have engaged with NYS OTDA, Ontario County DSS, and community partners to build support for our second family homeless shelter. As part of this phase, our plans will include a permanent supportive housing strategy and increased resources for eviction prevention and shelter diversion.

2029

By 2029, Family Promise of Ontario County will have 3 years of experience running a family homeless shelter. This experience will serve as a catalyst for expansion plans for the future. By the end of 2029 our goal is to have acquired our second location with capacity to serve an additional 10-14 families at a time with renovations close to completion to enable an opening date in 2030. By December 31, 2029, the Family Promise of Ontario County board of directors will have had approved a 5-year strategic plan through 2034 that will better meet the needs of the children and families experiencing homelessness in our communities.
