The Problem

More than half of American adults have less than $1,000 in savings—barely enough to cover a month’s rent. Additionally, 11.4% have no savings at all, and 40% of adults aged 35 to 44—prime years for raising children—have less than $500 set aside.

Family Homelessness

On any given night in 2024, according to the Department of Social Services, Ontario County houses 110-120 homeless individuals, including 20-25 families. Every night. That’s more than triple the number of families we served nightly in 2020. You don’t see them because we shelter them in hotels and motels around the county.

Student Homelessness

The McKinney-Vento data for the 2023-2024 school year reported 408 school-aged children experienced homelessness, in Ontario County, an increase of 28% from 2020/21. This does not include children under five that are experiencing homelessness.

Evictions

In 2023 there were 623 evictions in Ontario County, a 35% increase from 2019, according to NYS Unified Courts System Eviction Dashboard.
