Shelter Groundbreaking

On Friday, January 3, a groundbreaking ceremony marked the start of Ontario County's first family homeless shelter in Canandaigua. Funded by the Shill Cares Foundation, the historic cobblestone building at 495 N. Main St. will open in Fall 2025, providing 24/7 support for up to seven families through Family Promise of Ontario County. The shelter emphasizes a “hand-up” approach, helping families achieve independence. Community leaders praised the initiative for addressing a pressing need while keeping families together.
